Conditions ยท Hip Pain
Your hip is built to swing your leg forward and back. When it's forced to twist all day for a stiff spine, it wears out fast. Here's how we find what's really loading it.
Book a SessionHip pain shows up in a lot of ways. A deep ache in the groin. Soreness on the outside of the hip when you lie on that side. Stiffness getting out of the car. A catch when you put on your socks.
Sometimes the imaging shows real wear in the joint. Sometimes it shows nothing at all. Either way, the question we ask is the same. Why is this hip taking more load than it should?
Every step you take involves a little twist. Your arms swing opposite your legs, and your mid back rotates to make that happen. That's its job.
When your mid back gets stiff, your body still needs that rotation. So it borrows it from the next joint down. Usually that's the hip.
The hip is a ball and socket. It can rotate, but it isn't designed to be your main source of twist for thousands of steps a day. When it's forced into that role, the joint surfaces grind and shear in ways they weren't built for. Over years, that's how cartilage wears down on one side.
Hours of sitting shorten the muscles at the front of the hip. They pull the joint forward and tilt the pelvis, so the hip sits slightly off center all day.
The muscles on the side and back of the hip keep the joint stable when you stand on one leg. When they stop doing their job, the joint takes the strain instead.
Locked rotation above the pelvis is one of the most overlooked drivers of hip wear.
A foot that rolls in or a knee that drifts can change how force travels up into the hip.
One patient came to us with imaging that showed severe hip degeneration. They'd been told they needed a hip replacement.
The assessment found their mid back was locked and the ribs on the opposite side barely moved. Their hip had been supplying the rotation their spine couldn't. Treatment focused on restoring that rotation above the hip, not on the hip itself.
For that patient, pain dropped enough that they chose to cancel the surgery. The cartilage didn't grow back. The imaging didn't change. What changed was how much twisting the hip was being asked to do. Read more case studies.
That won't be the outcome for everyone, and some hips truly do need surgery. That decision belongs to you and your surgeon. But it's worth knowing what's driving the wear before you make it.
We look at your mid back, ribs, pelvis, knees, and feet, not just the hip that hurts.
Super pulsed cold laser helps settle irritated tissue around the hip so your nervous system stops guarding it.
Hands-on work frees up the stiff areas above and around the hip, so the joint can go back to its main job.
Your protocol is matched to your healing phase, and your starting session count comes from our Decade Rule.
If you've been told your hip is just worn out, it's worth asking what wore it out. An assessment looks above and below the joint for the answer.
